Which Radio Controlled Vehicle Is Right For You?

If you prefer a hobby grade vehicle then there are some choices to make. Do you want one that runs on batteries? These have electric motors that are run by the use of rechargeable batteries. The advantage to these types of vehicles is there is no fuel to mess with. They come with either a brushless motor or a motor with brushes. They can be the off road design or on road design and come in either car or truck styles. These are often a good choice for beginners as they do not need as much maintenance as the fuel type.

When choosing the right kind of radio controlled vehicle to purchase there are a few things to consider. First, is it for a child or an older person, for a young child a toy grade vehicle is often the better choice.These can be found in many stores in the toy department.  If you are not sure you will enjoy this hobby you may want to try a toy one first.

Rc nitros that are considered for on road use have a more rigid suspension system and are made for smooth surfaces only. These can be used in parking lots and driveways. They are not made for rugged terrain and jumping or climbing. Off road vehicles are equipped with better suspension systems and are made especially for rough terrain and jumping or climbing.

If you are serious enough you will probably decide to get a nitro fueled vehicle. Although these are more complicated to work with they are faster and more dependable than the electric vehicles. Rc nitros run on a mix of nitro methane, methanol and oil. You can get them in either the on road version or the off road version. So make sure you know where you will be running them before making your purchase!

Rc nitro cars use a single servo for both braking control and throttle control. If you rotate the servo in one direction it will make the throttle open more and increase the speed. Rotating the servo in the other direction will cause friction, thus slowing the car down. Rc nitros are totally air cooled allowing them to run a long time if they are properly tuned, without the worry of overheating. Another advantage over electric cars is that nitro cars can be refueled in a matter of seconds compared to the recharging of batteries for electric powered rc cars.
