Your Easy Guide To Getting Started With RC Vehicles

As a newbie, you wouldn’t want to risk purchasing a RC Aircraft or a RC Sailing Craft without developing your flight feathers and sea legs first. You would surely want to get started in a more controlled environment where the danger of damaging your RC vehicle is minimal. For this reason, there is no better location for your inaugural test run than the comfort of your own home.
So what type of radio controlled vehicle is cheap to buy, cheap, risk-free and easy to run, but above all, incredibly fun to drive?
How about a Super Infrared Controlled mini RC vehicle? Here are the benefits to you of acquiring one of these fun little RC Vehicles:

o Safe to use.
Being an electrically operated product (not recommended for children under 6 years of age unless supervised by an adult), this RC Vehicle is safer than the Nitro Gas option. You may find that the RC Vehicle that you buy benefits from over current protection.

o Simply kitted out.
You get the RC vehicle itself and the Controller/Charger. All you need to purchase are 6, 1.5V alkaline AA batteries (housed in a compartment beneath the Controller/Charger).

o Easily chargeable.
You simply plug the charging cable from the Controller/Charger into the back of your RC Vehicle, ensuring that the arrow on the cable plug is visible on top. Set the Charger switch ON and set your RC vehicle’s mode of operation switch to OFF. Charging time is only 20 to 40 minutes. NOTE: allow batteries to cool down for about 10 minutes before recharging. The Charging indicator is green upon charging, and goes out when charging is completed. Replace the batteries when the charging time becomes unacceptably extended.

o Simple to operate.
Switch your RC Vehicle to CRAWL. On the Controller, use the left joystick to control your RC Vehicle’s forward and reverse movement and the right (direction) joystick to turn your RC Vehicle left and right. Once you’ve mastered ‘crawling’, switch your RC Vehicle to ‘CLAMBER’ and read on…

o Fun to drive.
Not only can you drive this little gem of an RC Vehicle on your lounge floor, you can make it climb up your walls! Cool eh? Just switch your RC Vehicle’s CRAWL/OFF/CLAMBER switch to the CLAMBER position, place it on a wall and manoeuvre your RC Vehicle as you would on the ground, using left and right joysticks. If your RC Vehicle does not climb, this means that its over current protection has engaged. Switch the vehicle OFF for about 30 seconds, and then restart it.

o *Illuminating* in forward/reverse operation.
Push the left joystick forwards and the headlights turn on, pull the joystick back and the rear lights of your RC Vehicle come on.

o *illuminating* in left/right direction operation.
Push the direction joystick to the left, the front left headlight illuminates. Reverse left, and the rear left light comes on. Push the direction joystick to the right and, guess what? Yes, another nice touch!

o Easy to run in your home.
All you need is a clean flat surface (floor/wall) that is neither too smooth, nor too rough

o Easy to maintain.
So as not to impair manoeuvrability, ensure that the fabric air/suction skirts beneath your RC Vehicle are kept free of dirt/dust/hair/fluff. Clean the tyres with a damp cloth.

o Easy to maintain maximum performance of your RC Vehicle.
Keep your RC Vehicle fully charged, the fabric skirts unclogged and adjusted outwards to an angle of about 45 degrees (this should ensure that your RC vehicle is properly suctioned against the wall). Ensure that your RC Vehicle is switched to CRAWL or CLAMBER as appropriate.

Remember, your first RC Vehicle could be the start of a hobby that will take you ‘on the road’ to ultimate RC heaven – no kidding. From here, your journey could entail an adventure that grows as your collection of RC Vehicles grows. Aside from the larger-scale, Electric RC Vehicles, you’ll be able to try RC Nitro Gas vehicles. Both types include RC Off Roaders and RC Street Racers, encompassing jeeps and buggies, climbing/crawling hammers and trucks, rally and racing cars, drift and touring cars and trucks.

Getting into Radio Control Car Racing

Whether you’re nine or ninety, if you love cars and enjoy tinkering with things, you’ll get hours of enjoyment and excitement from RC cars. But there are a lot of things involved in getting to the race, and if you’re new to RC vehicles and RC racing, you’ve probably got a lot of questions.

There’s a lot to choose from when it come to RC’s, and if you’re a newcomer, you may need help choosing off and on-road, electric or nitro remote control cars. The more you know about RC cars, the better you’ll be able to choose the right vehicle for you.

Most people don’t realize just how exciting RC vehicles have become-the hobby quality RC cars made and raced today have can get up to speeds of 60 mph and feature suspension systems that can be tuned just like a real car. Perhaps the most exciting part is the wide variety of types of RC vehicles: you can drive a race car, run a monster truck on dirt tracks or even fly a plane!

Because of this, though, you should consider just what you plan to use your RC for before you decide to buy.  On-road or racing cars are made for speed, while off-road vehicles like buggies are mean to take more rugged terrain.  Plus, you can choose to buy your RC ready to run out of the box or as a kit to build it yourself. These and many other aspects are important to know before you buy your first RC.
There are RC cars and trucks for every kind of driver: nitro engines for the speed demon, reliable ready to run electric cars for touring, and for the advanced, even planes to fly. The electric cars run quietly and so are better suited to run right in your neighborhood, while the nitro motors give you the real feel of the racetrack. What you buy should depend on your experience-choose your RC according to your experience to avoid frustration later on.

Something to keep in mind from the outset is that RC vehicles are a high-end hobby, and can get quite expensive. If you plan to race your car, there are additional costs that come with competition.   But if you’re prepared for the cost, and if you make your purchases carefully, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing new hobby whose rewards certainly outweigh the cost. These are the decisions that need to be made before you buy:

• Do you want a ready to run car or do you want build your own?
• Do you want an on-road or an off-road RC vehicle?
• Which is right for you- a nitro or an electric RC?
• What type of RC vehicle do you want- and what size?

No matter what you decide, if you keep your own experience and commitment level in mind, you’ll be certain to get the car that’s right for you.

Whether you race them or just tinker with their engines, RC cars are a great hobby for kids of all ages. Though it might seem overwhelming at first, you’ll find that the most you work on your car and the more times you race, the more fun and exciting this hobby can be!

So you’re thinking of getting a RC truck?”  Don’t till you read this!

1ST you’re going to have to decide what type of RC truck
.

RC trucks come in Electric – Nitro – petrol versions, and the fun you’ll have is priceless. Rc trucks are awesome and most come with big chunky wheels and 4WD, shock absorbers and more.

Electric rc trucks are RTR (ready to run) and you just need to charge up the batteries and go !

They can be used indoors or outside, trucks are great off road and can go over rock, mud, woodland, parks and grass. Also are good on road and can be raced with other rc trucks, with Electric models there is little noise and the maintance is much lower than Nitro.
Speeds of 30 mph and more if modified and stunts an jumps with these are excellent fun but be sure not to drive your truck though any water as it will fry your electrics or servo !

I recommend covering the electric cables and any exposed wires with electrical tape and a good tip is to use a normal balloon and cover the electric receiver to make it water tight. Also check the screws are all tight and you can also use clear silicone to seal the box cover lid and any gaps.

Cleaning the rc truck after each run is essential and a good tool to get in all the little places is to use a toothbrush, just make sure to get all dirt, mud ect off and do a visual check all over. Don’t forget to check the batteries in the controller are fresh or fully charged or you may lose control on the truck or worse head over towards a lake or smash into something and cause damage..

So i strongly suggest for starters using “rechargeable batteries” as it will cost you a lot of money as they tend not to last too long and as you know good batteries are not cheap. Also you’ll always know the batteries are full and fresh.

there are two main types of electric motors- Brushed and Brushless.

With a brushed motor there are small contact brushes inside the motor that make it spin and are common on toy grade trucks, some can have replaceable brushes that can be fitted and cleaning is needed as dust and debris builds up inside.

Brushless motors are becoming more popular now as there are more benefits as there are no brushes, so there is much less friction and therefore produces less heat so you can go longer running your vehicle and more importantly it will be faster ! Yes as a brushless motor can take more voltage than a brushed one so speed and performance is far better and your be less likely to burn out the motor by overheating. Brushless is much worth the extra bit of money and your save in the long run. Electric rc trucks are best for beginners and children to start off with.

NITRO RC TRUCKS
Nitro trucks are powered by a special nitro fuel which can easily be bought from a hobby shop or online and it is worth the extra effort. With nitro models there is much more maintence like checking tires, air filter and empty any nitro fuel left in the tank, as not doing so or investing the extra time needed could destroy the engine.

Like a normal NEW car you have to run the engine in slowly and this is the same for any new nitro radio controlled vehicle, so be sure to read the instructions well or research about nitro models as this can get costly if you just go and blast it around and blow the engine up. But hey let me tell you Nitro rc trucks are fast, noisy and can keep refuelling and going.
Nitro rc trucks can reach speeds of 70 mph and some come with full specification like 2 speed gearbox, 4WD tough alloy shocks and cool body shells.

Because of the fuel and speed of nitro trucks they are not for children under 14 years old. This is a great hobby and if speed is you then nitro is the way to go.

Petrol rc trucks
Petrol rc trucks run on unleaded petrol and 2 stroke oil which can be bought from any petrol forecourt and normally when you buy a petrol rc truck you’re get a mixing bottle to mix up the right mixture but these are great trucks like the hummer rc truck for example: the sizes are normally bigger 1/5th scale and these trucks can do jumps, spins and can do speeds of 80 KM/H.

The smell of the petrol burning away is the closest your get to the real thing but petrol models are the most expensive of all the 3 to buy but are second to none for racing and give the feel of the real thing.
